"Typical midtown street with a couple points of note"
Midtown is my least favorite part of the city. It's ugly, completely swamped with tourists and dirty. Just about everything in midtown caters to tourists as well. Basically, all this stretch of town is is chain restaurants, Broadway theatres and souvenir stores. And, West 37th is one of the uglier streets. I don't know that you could pay me to live in this part of town let alone this street. There just isn't any sort of neighborhood feel; and there are way too many tourists. It's impossible to get through the street traffic in any sort of timely manner.
Having said that, there are some redeeming qualities about w 37th. Just Salad is on 37th at Broadway. The salads are huge and it's slightly less expensive than Chop't and it's a great place to go for lunch if you're in the area and you don't want Sbarro or some other touristy grease food. Artichoke Cafe is on 37th between 7th and 8th. I actually go out of my way to get juice from this place. It sounds like a simple feat but their fresh juices just can't be beat. They also have great salads and sandwiches and the staff is great. I love this place and I wish it weren't in that part of town.
William Esper Studio (one of the most famous Actor Studios) is on 37th between 7th and 8th. There are always a bunch of young actors hanging out outside the studio and that's about as close to a neighborhood vibe as this street is gonna get. Other than that, it's mostly just weird clothing shops and desolation. Houndstooth pub on the corner of 37th and 8th is a bust so don't go there.

West 37th St
"W 37th: a great location"
West 37th Street is a pretty typical residential street. There are several great locations that are available for sale along the street. Along with a few shops and hotels, there are several good restaurants that you can find if you walk up and down a few blocks. The best part about staying on W 37th is the easy access to great attractions such as the empire state building and retail stores at 34th Street. Not to mention there is easy access to multiple forms of transportation. This makes a nice calm place to live or stay.

West 37th St
"Same ol' Same"
This street is pretty much like the rest in this area except for 34th street. Easy access to just about everything and public transportation is near by. You are within walking distance of the shopping spectacular that is 34th street and the Empire State Building. There are a lot of bead shops in this area aswell which is nice if you like to make jewelery. You're basically in the fashion district. You will find fabric stores and dress shops in this area. Another great thing about this street and New York City in general are the payphones. You can find one just about anywhere and if you have a cell phone reception is good too.
