"A lot of churches"
West 41st has some apartment buildings, including the biggest one in Manhattan, but a large majority of the street's run through the neighborhood is taken up by religious buildings. The aforementioned apartment building is right at 12th and it's called River Place. There are over 900 units in the building which actually makes it one of the biggest in the country. I'm sure the units are nice but I feel like it would be living in a dorm rather than in an apartment if you have that many neighbors.
There's a massive church on the corner of 41st and 11th that takes up the whole block. Across the street is now a construction site but it used to be the home to one of the original New York breweries and a Catholic boys group building. Interesting choice to put a place for young boys to go . . . next to a brewery. The block at 11th continues with the church theme. There are about five of them on this block as well as the Univision Headquarters (which owns most of the Spanish language radio broadcasting in the country). Must be hard for all the Univision employees to get lunch when they're just surrounded by the cloth, no?
The block between 8th and 9th is taken up by the Port Authority so there's nothing to do here but get out of town. Not that this block is much of a change from the rest of the street. There's no neighborhood to this street and you have to go into another want if you want any sort of good food or entertainment. But, if you want a church, I'm pretty sure 41st has you covered.
