"A ghost of what it used to be"
This is the road I've lived on for the past nine years. What started as a beautiful subdivision built around a golf course with spectacular homes has turned into a less than appealing area with not much to do. In the beginning years the golf course was nice and used frequently, had a nice large man made pond in it, and a clubhouse with a really good restaurant. New homeowners were promised paths around the area for bicycle riding and walking, and a large park for kids to play at. Neither happened and the golf course went bankrupt. The clubhouse is empty and this area is now just a ghost of what it was. The homes used to go from the low 400s to the $600 thousand + dollar range, but now you can find some great deals with the foreclosures in the neighborhood. What used to cost $500,000 you can now get for around $360,000, and sometimes less if your timing is good. Although we've seen people come and go, the neighbors directly around us have all been here since the beginning. They are some good people who care about one another and help each other out when they can. There are a lot of kids in this neighborhood with ranges from infants to high school. There used to be a great sense of community here, but that seems to have left as the people have. Although we love our home, we are now very seriously considering moving. This neighborhood just doesn't have the appeal it once did.
There is now talk of the town getting a grant to put a park in, but at this late date (for us), it doesn't really matter. Our kids are now all nine years older. Although I will miss some of our neighbors when we do move, I won't really miss this subdivision. The schools the kids here go to rate a 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10. Many people we know who live here (including us) take their kids to other districts, homeschool, or attend an alternative charter school in town. I would no longer recommend this street or subdivision unless there is some pressing reason a person needs to live this far out. You can get a pretty amazing house with around 4,000 square feet for much, much less than you'd pay for in town.
Since the area is so far out there are numerous rabbits and coyotes all around, which is nice to see. But the positives no longer outweigh the negatives for us.
