"Decent neighborhood of row homes"

The area around this street is made up mostly of row homes. Many of them are nicely kept up or have been renovated but some still need some work. Many have roof decks. People are friendly enough, but since many people rent in the area, they don't seem to get to close to their neighbors. It seems that it is mostly groups of young people or young couples that live in the area. It is easy enough to find a place to park most of the time and has easy access to the highway or downtown.

"Visit the market by day and the bars by night"

The centerpiece of Cross Market St. is a large market with vendors selling all types of food and produce. A good place to pick up a good meal. In the area around the market are many restaurants and bars that are close enough for convenient bar hopping. It is a popular place at night, and parking is often difficult to find. In the area around the market are very nice row houses and a nice neighborhood. One drawback is that people used to have to move their cars off the street whenever there was a baseball game because the stadium is close by.

"Great Nightlife on Weekends"

There are a number of bars and restaurants along this street. At the north end of the street is a brick square that is usually closed off on weekend nights to allow people to spill out from the surrounding bars and clubs. Often they play loud music and there are people everywhere. It's a good place to head if you into clubbing or bar hopping, but can tend to be noisy and crowded.

"Best place to visit for a day in Baltimore"

Some major Baltimore sites are along this street. The aquarium is one of the best and is a popular place to take visitors. There are also a couple of shopping centers with all types of different stores and a many restaurants that make for a nice rest after the aquarium visit. My favorite is the Cheesecake Factory. Walking along the street gives some nice views of the Inner Harbor or you can find a bench for some good people watching.

"Great place for a meal"

There are lots and lots of restaurants along this street which makes it a great place to get a meal anytime of the day. Many of these places also double as bars at night. One of the restaurants has an excellent drink called an orange crush. There are also some unique small shops and a market in the middle of the street. There are a couple of pay lots for parking or some street parking if you drive around a bit. I've always had a good time visiting this street.

"Small Street in New Development"

Harper St. is a small street in a new development of condos near Ft. McHenry. The condos are large and very nice with garages or easy on-street parking. All of the buildings look pretty much the same in the development, so if you don't mind that, it's ok. There is still plenty of construction going on in the area, so the street tends to be very dusty.

"Street runs right along the Harbor"

This street runs right along the harbor and has nice views of the water and ships and boats. There is at least one nice park with a water taxi stop. There are a number of upscale condo complexes along the street with great views of the water. There are also a number of commercial buildings such as a gym, grocery store, and several restaurants. It is certainly a nice place to visit for the day and would be a great place to live if you can afford it!

"Commercial Street in mostly residencial neighborhood"

This street is mostly commercial although the neighborhood around it is residencial. There are several businesses along the street, as well as some bars and pubs and a brewery. There is a fair amount of traffic that goes along the street and there aren't that many traffic signals, so you need to be careful crossing the street!

"Nice row homes, close to school"

This is a nice street near Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The street is mainly lined with nice row homes intermixed with a few restaurants or bars. Many of the homes have roof decks with great views. There is an elementary school that takes up one entire block of the street. The neighborhood is pretty safe and there is lots of on street parking.

"A very tiny street in a descent area"

Harmony Ct. is a very small street barely wide enough for a car to go down. It is line with narrow row homes that are nicely kept up. Some of them are owned and others are rented by young people. The houses do have an alley to park cars or there is easy street parking.

"One of the noisier streets in University City"

Baltimore Ave. is one of the busier streets in West Philly and one of the trolley lines also runs down the street making it quite noisy. The buildings are a combination of row homes and victorian houses broken up into apartments. The street runs by Clark Park which is popular for bringing your dog and also has a farmer's market on Saturdays. An excellent coffee shop, The Green Line, is also right across from the park.

"Residencial feel in the city"

The area around S. 47th Street known as Garden Court is a mix of a few smaller apartment buildings and many single family homes or twins. The entire area was built in the 1930's and was one of the first neighborhoods designed to accomodate automobiles. As a result, since many of the houses have their own garages, street parking is easy to find. The area has a much more residential feel than areas farther east closer to the University of Pennsylvania and Center City. The area is relatively safe and also serviced by both bus and trolley lines. Also, within 20 minutes walking of the University of Pennsylvania. There is a community pool and a few good restaurants within blocks.

"Italian Philly at its best"

South Ninth Street is home to Philadelphia's Italian Market perhaps made famous in the Rocky movies. The Market features stalls selling fresh meats, cheese, vegetables, and delicious desserts such as cannolis. Also along Ninth Street are a number of small restaurants that are well known for their weekend brunches. One of the most popular, Sabrina's, often has a 2 hour wait on weekends. This wait can be partially avoided by calling ahead and getting put on their list. The area around the Italian Market is a mix of row homes, some of which are quite rundown and others which have been recently renovated. The area is beginning to be revitalized in the past few years. Parking is available on the street if you have the patience to look for it.

"Nice street for living or visiting"

Second Street is right in the heart of historic Philadelphia. The area between Walnut and South Street in particular boasts a mix of good restaurants and older historic row homes. Of note, is the City Tavern near Walnut St. where you are sure to get both a history lesson and a hearty meal. Particularly good is their warm ciders in the winter. Farther south, Second St. opens up into an area that used to be a Market in colonial times. In this area there are a number of restaurants and pubs. Intermixed on Second St. and on the cross street are lots of neatly kept historic row homes, many with nice flower boxes and lots of architectural details.

"Great shopping and dining"

Walnut Street in University city runs through the University of Pennsylvania campus. The street is lined with a number of university buildings and a number of places to shop. These shops include book stores, clothing stores, running shoes, and a card and gift store. There are also a few good restaurants to get a bite to eat after your shopping spree, including one that serves nothing but cereal! Another place for a cheap and tasty lunch are the food trucks. These trucks serve many varieties of food and are a university city staple.

"Home of Reading Terminal Market, one of the best places in the city"

On Filbert Street, between 11th and 12th Streets, sits Reading Terminal Market, which, in my opinion, is one of the best places in the city for locals and tourists alike. The Market consists of a number of eateries as well as booths selling anything from fresh meat, to produce, wine, chocolates or flowers. Tourists stop in for lunch and locals come here to get some of the only fresh produce that seems to make it into the city. Also, in this area is the Convention Center as well as Chinatown slightly more to the east. Between these three destinations, this is a must visit for everyone that passes through Philadelphia.

"The Craziest Street in Philadelphia"

The eastern end of South Street is probably one of the craziest streets in Philadelphia. It has an eclectic mix of nightclubs, restaurants, and shops that probably couldn't be found elsewhere in the city. One of the better places to get a cheesesteak, Jim's steaks, is right in the mix on South St. It is an interesting place to go with a group of friends for food and shopping or a night out, but probably not the best place to take the kids. Parking is very difficult at night, but somewhat easier to find during the day or on Sunday.

"Typical of university city"

This area is located in the middle of University City which is part of West Philly. Overall, it is a convenient and descent place to live if your budget doesn't allow you to live in center city. Most of the area is small apartment buildings or large victorian houses that have been broken up into apartments. If you live directly on Spruce or Walnut Streets, it is much noisier and there is more traffic than in the area south of Spruce Street which is quieter. Parking is free on the street and is usually fairly easy to find. The area is within walking distance to the University of Pennsylvania and very close to the 42 bus route that runs downtown.

"Overrun by students during the academic year"

40th Street between Locust and Walnut Streets is home to a number of restaurants that cater mainly to university students and staff. During the days and evenings of the academic year it is always full of students, while the summers are quieter. The areas near this street are dominated by off campus housing and fraternity housing for students making the area both noisy and the streets generally littered with trash and beer bottles. Having said that, some of the restaurants are fine for a quick bite to eat and there is also a book store, shoe store, movie theater, and grocery store on this block. All in all, its a good place to pass through on errands but probably those out of college would not like to live in the immediate area.

"Neat street for browsing shops or grabbing a bite to eat"

Sansom Street between 34th and 35th streets is a hidden gem close to the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Lined on one side of the street by Penn dorms, the opposite side has a number of interesting shops and eating places including a tea house, coffee shop, New Deck pub, and the eclectic Black Cat gift shop. Also on this street is the White Dog Cafe, which is a sure bet for a delicious meal of locally grown foods. A great place to visit if you are in the area and its easily reached by either the 42 or 21 bus or the blue lines 36th St. stop. Although many of the businesses also have apartments on their second or third stories, I think this would be a much better street to visit than to live on because of the noise from the pub and restaurants during the evenings.

"Shady walk, great for people watching"

Locust walk cuts right through the heart of the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. It is lined with large trees and bench or tables, along with a number of older buildings belonging to the university. During the day, it is bustling with people going about their business, students going to classes, people handing out fliers, and students mingling with professors over coffee. It is a great place to take a short break and sit on a bench under a shady tree and people watch.
